Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said it, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

Smell Sec and eating while on the boogie

Just for a thought experiment, lets say you find you have to get out of Dodge. How do you cook food in such a way that 1) you aren’t making a ton of smoke, 2) not creating smells that carry miles, and 3) eat well.

Lets say you catch a rabbit. (note, do a serious inspection of the late rabbits liver. if you see white lumps,,, pass on said rabbit, use it for fish bait instead. Tularemia is bad mojo.) You figure out how to field clean it so you can cook it, but to build a fire and roast it is out of the question. Build a ‘long Dakota hole, with several air inlets. get you a good coal base going. While that is happening, gather your other materials. Grasses of some sort, I highly suggest cat-tail stalks. you can even take the roots and add them to the inside of the rabbit. Wild lettuce, or other greens, including wild onion greens, will add flavor and help prevent other health issues. Be cautious: if you don’t KNOW the plant, I don’t suggest you experiment. Wrap your ‘passed inspection’ rabbit in the cat-tail with all the goodies packed inside. then smother that fire with a layer of dirt. Fill in the air holes too. Place the wrapped rabbit on the dirt and cover it. In a couple of hours, the heat from the coals will have cooked that rabbit, and all the cooking smells will be contained underground. Now, those smells are going to come out when you open the ‘oven’ to claim your dinner, but there isn’t much you can do about that except eat on the run, so to speak. They should be mild in comparison to cooking in the open air, and, situation dependent, you may get to eat in peace.

And that brings about another subject. OBSERVATION… Know your surroundings. More on that on its own post.
