Icky rainy night,,,
Rains didn’t start till one aye mmm,, Just like the weather liars predicted. And the winds,,, Yup, those too. Being on a ridgeline, but in trees, the wind was pretty insistent without being an ass,, I could hear the limbs in the trees my hammock is attached to ‘talking’ but I chose these trees because I didn’t see any widow-makers in the upper reaches. No worries.
About 3 was when the fun REALLY started. Woke up, heads wet. I’m like ‘WTF?’,,start probing around,,, My dumb-butt didn’t set the drip straps properly, and the rain running down the tree trunk was hitting my hammock straps and rolling right along to my hammock and down the little channels created by stress, straight to my head. Outside of the sleeping bag is a little damp this morning, but I never once felt cold, other than my head, and that was mitigated by pulling my watch cap back on. Yeah, one of those Mil-surp wool watch caps that itch when you have no hair but rock your world when you do. The danged thing can be wet as a mop and still keep your head warm (note, do NOT put a damp watchcap in a dryer, WEAR IT till dry, ask me how I know,,,,)
Morning, the after storm sunlight that is just some of the most amazing light you can imagine. Rebuilt the fire up and put on the coffee, sitting here watching the world wake up. (those boondockers are missing out on the best part of the day,,, Sucks to be them IMO) (speaking of whom, right at 10pm, they shut off that genny. I was sorta shocked actually. I figured them to be the rude ones,,,) and waiting for Brudder B to arrive. He’ll be here or he’ll text saying shit came up,,, either way, I am here and the coffee is hot, good and plentiful and I may have a caffiene buzz from hell here shortly.
I dig on times like this. Its when you figure out how few of the ‘toys of society ‘ you really need to be comfortable. (the toys I am using to write this are NOT essential, just convenient, and if things go wonky, would be the first to be left behind.)
The sleeping bag is hanging out to dry and air out, the woobie as well (loves my woobie,,,) sun is shining directly on my hammock which is also getting a breeze,,, life is good,,,
