ice on the porch
its that sort of mornin’. Little rain blowing around last night, porch picked up some wet on the edges,,, this morning, sheet of ice,,,
Furry lumps scattered about the house, better heads than mine; find a warm spot, go to sleep, and let the world be.
Springtime in the mountains of Appalachia, usual fair, sweat the day freeze that night, drenching rains to sinus cracking dry spells, then back again. It ain’t climate change,,,, Its called “THE WEATHER” and if you don’t like it, stick around a few minutes, it’ll change,,,,
Better (not great, but better) sleep last night. 6 hours and only one lucid moment I recall, so I managed some deep sleep. Feel much better today for it. Still did that 3am stare at the ceiling thing as thoughts percolated up and the dreads descended. So much crap that could go sideways without warning and when the darks are deepest, those dreads creep out and pinch me awake. The only serious downside to being a thinking type. I wonder if being a ‘feelz’ type is worse,,, Dunno, not sure I would want to know,
Winter is giving us a reminder that Spring may have sprung early, but we are still very much in Old Man Winter’s realm still. Hatez the cold,,,, So this morning, stoke the fire, put on the coffee, feed the Voo, and park my butt in the office chair, 7 feet in front of the woodstove, with my hindpaws facing the flames. (gotta keep the tootsies warm ya-know). Has a Grizzy curled up next to the calves on the ottoman, backside facing the fire so the front side can breath cooler air,,, Happy kitteh,,,,
Mama, not so much. My backside is in HER BED, and that is just not acceptable to the queenbitchkitteh,,, Too flippin’ bad fluff monster of the sharp teeth n claws,,, Mass beats molecular edges this time. (its not like she doesn’t have the full bed all to her lonesome right now,,,)
Noted when I went out for an armload of firewood, hoarfrost on Lizzy, UNDER the carport,,, Yeah, its that cold,,,, But by the fogs hanging over the river, water is warming up. Maybe not Warm-warm, but warmer than the air above it,,, Soon Dio, soon,,, Patience Grasshopper,,,
Looking like a busy month coming on. White water Clinic the first full week of April. Cold weather camping trip next weekend (if the rain doesn’t run us out.) SKAW paddle race on the 23rd, and there are more that I would like to do, but not sure I can 1)afford to (not blegging, dammit, just sayin’) or 2)manage to squeeze them in AND keep the J.O.B. going.
One in particular that I wanted to do, but is looking like its going to be a missed opportunity AGAIN,,, Meeting up with Mark E in Charleston. I had a chance to meet-up with him in the LBL here in KY, BUT, I had just discovered his TOUR, and by the time I realized he was that close, he was 100 miles downstream from there and moving fast. As of last night, he was a day (or less) of crossing the Florida/Georgia border, and headed north. I did some quick calculations and estimate he will be hitting Charleston about the time (the week of) the whitewater clinic I am scheduled for. I’m not an electron nor a god, I can’t be in two places at the same time.
The sun is over the ridgeline now, burning off that fog hanging over the river,,, the weather liars are saying it won’t get much warmer today, but looking out the window, it looks nice,,, wishful thinking eh? At least the rain is gone for a day or two,,,, refill the mug time
