Talking about visitors
Wish my camera had nightvision,,
I was standing in my kitchen this morning,(530am) listening to the coffee perk, looking out the window facing my Uncles place. He has a streetlamp over his and it usually irritates the hell out of me, but this morning, it illuminated something.
That wasnt one of my housekats, and it wasn’t a daggum dawg either.
BIG wildcat wandering the neighborhood. Not a bobcat; they aren’t that big, and dogs don’t move like that. Shine the lights up there and Mr/Mrs Kat standing there looking right back: green eyed reflections about 6″ apart, just watching me. Maybe 30 yards off, right between my house and unks.
And my kittehs? All in hiding, ‘cept Grizz; whos huddled between my feet and growling.
Since I managed to eliminate my other late night visitor, who did come back to the feast for seconds, and had his last supper; maybe said CAT is looking for an easy meal and smells the spilled blood of last night. Good thing I moved that carcass well away from the house last night for burial today. (Nope, I don’t eat possum, don’t care if some say its good: can’t abide their smell living and I believe that smell would be part and parcel of the flesh. Yuck!!!)
At least the wild cats of Appalachia are notorious about “shy”. Most people arent sure we even HAVE wild cats in our hills, and yet may have 2 or 3 living within a half mile of them, and NEVER see them.
And the wildlife people tell us we do NOT have mountain lion or catamounts here, and yet all of the old timers will tell you otherwise. And in the spring you can occasionally hear the mating calls of these ‘non-existant ‘ cats.
And occasionally someone gets a picture.

Those were taken by a kayak friend near here. VERY NEAR. Less than what that breed usually wander in a day distance away, near.
But the stateboys say ‘nope, we dont have any’.
Live in woods, expect visitors,,,
