ooggie weathers
but then, its flippin’ December right? the Weather Liars are calling for the next 4 days of rain, usually in the high 80% chances, and the temp predicitons model that perfectly, not falling into bone numbing chills overnights. Not to say its summery weather, but I was just outside in a t-shirt and didn’t get chilled. I wouldn’t want to STAY out in it with just a T on,,,
B, M, and I and some others that I haven’t yet met, had planned on a winter camping thing this weekend, but with the rains, today it was decided to postpone things for a spell. There are some bugs running around, and B just shook one off, but no need to be tempting the parasites into a coup attempt. I have some new gear that needs field tested, and was looking forward to this weekend as that test, but hey, it can wait. I’ve done the wet weather camp-out thing, usually while wearing BDU’s and toting an M-16A2 and body armor, Wasn’t fun then, and probably wouldn’t be fun now,,,
especially considering the age differential
I did learn a thing or two then, and still carry some of that gear for the ‘just in case’ factors. Poncho liners (aka, the Marines Woobie) are rockin for keeping warm when nothing, absolutely NOTHING is dry. A pair of goretex ‘socks’ makes life pretty bearable, and if you don’t have those, neoprene socks work almost as well, (though you want to air them out frequently and let your feet dry: otherwise you may be playing with jungle rot and that shit SUCKS.)
One of the items I have to field test is an inflatable mattress: I be gettin’ a might older and the ground is NOT as comforting as it once was (and I am not running hells bells through Carolina pines or 29 Palms river washes anymore, so not as beat to shit when I finally get a chance to lay out my carcass). I can use it both on ground or in my hammock, but I want to see which way works best for it. I am thinking that on the ground, it will not be as effective (I’m a side sleeper, and that creates a point at the hip and shoulder that usually end up feeling ‘pinched’ if I am not on good padding while on the ground.)(The BEST ‘mattress’ I have ever used while camping, was a small trench dug under my sleeping position and filled with leaves and pine needles before setting up my bivvy. I slept like a BABY,,,)
Still playing with the dating game. had one last night that made me do a double take and think “someone is yanking my chain,,,” Can’t tell if the profile is legit or a bot, but damn!!! Fine looking gal and what she would see in this burned out cowboy look I have going,,,, Maybe she just wants to slum it for awhile. LOL
Anywhoos, the J.O.B. thing is being a bit lean this week, what with drenching rains and cool temps; half the crew doesn’t even bother to come in when its like this,,, MY side of the shin-dig has stuff to do over the next day, maybe two, but really not as much as I would like. Work may slow down, but the creditors don’t,,,
