This one is one of the lucky few,,,,
5, maybe 6 weeks old, not weaned, but not starved half to death either. Dunno where his sibs are: he ‘just showed up’ on our drive at work today. He’s one of the lucky ones because one of the guys at work took a shine to him and took him home at the end of the day. I played babysitter all day and he is a lovable little buzzbox. As you can see, he made a bed of my lunchbox,,, Spent half the day sleeping, when he wasn’t chowing down, or looking for a spot to leave the leftovers behind. Played a bit, but the other kittens, the feral ones, wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. (and you could see it ‘hurt’ his feelings a bit,,,)
BUT, he’s one of the lottery winners around here. Like I said, no idea where his sibs are, but I would imagine they are no longer a part of this world, or not far from it if they are still sporting a pulse.
The drop-off rate is escalating too. Incomes dwindling, or recession or whatever the hell you want to call it; when money gets tight, people around here “lose” the spare mouths that aren’t essential. They don’t give a damn that the entity they are disposing of likely has no means of support in the wild, or that it may just transfer the problem to someone else (all of my animals are strays/drop-offs, I can’t take anymore in without causing issues with my elder pair.) I swear there are times I think they would drop the kids off if they thought they could get away with it. And seeing how many ‘grandparents’ are pretty much full time if not actual full time ‘parents’ of the grans,,,
Not like this is new either. There was a time when Orphanages were a whole lot more prevalent in this country, and we do have one not far from here. And the history of them follows the ups and downs of economies,,,
At least this one didn’t fade into the void like most of them do around here (or pack up and become a problem that needs removed with force, like some of the dogs do.)
I hear dad got his ex a dog from there. Good to know it’s going to be spoiled rotten. Lol. Hang in there. Sounds like the little kitty got itself a home too. Every one counts.
