Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said it, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

Shut up, right?

Well, its time to show y’all what I’ve been gabbin’bout all week: an Aleutian paddle (kinda sorta, my interpretation thereof)

Ridge face
Power face

Danged thing is 92″ tip to tip. 230cm. Thats 10cm longer than my GP.

Still have details to do, like sanding it babybutt smooth, and I need to decide on finish. Oil, wax, varnish, or glass. I have some trimmings and I’ll play with those to decide before I go whole hog.

Back to the grind tomorrow,,, woowoo!🤐

Absolutely beautiful. My opinion is spar varnish. But I’m not an expert on maritime finishes

    • Spar varnish is an industry standard nso to speak, but most of the paddles I have made b4, I used bees wax, or a bees wax and Tung oil mix. I find the wax doesn’t wear holes in my wet hands like varnish does. But, as many laminations as this one has, I am likley going with varnish or epoxy finish: mostly to keep the paddle from ‘coming apart at the seams’, and I will deal with hand wear as it happens.
