Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

I feelz the love

Ok, gotta say, I didn’t see that one comin’.   All the positive commentary definitely put some wind back in my sails.  Not certain where said wind is gonna take me, but I have regained “reason” to get back at it.

I don’t wanna say too much about what I am considering doing (mostly since I have yet to define a universe for said effort, you’ll understand that statement later, trust me,,,) BUT, I will make an extended effort to put up something everyday.  It might not be much, but hey, something is better’n nuthin’.   (Yeah, I know it, I popped that cherry under the Oblammy-o-boy administration, and know rule one: Post SOMETHING, DAILY, or die in a fire on the back forty.  Thankz BCE for telling it to me again, in a sideways kinda way.)

So, anywayysss,,,,   I went back out to the lake today.   Came home, ate a quick Bachelors meal, and swapped long boats on the truck.   Brought Selkie to dry-dock, and put Blue Jean on the racks.   Went back to the same lake, same put in, but conditions had grown a bit more lively without becoming crazy: more waves, more wind.   Put in, paddled a bit,,,,

Booooommmmm!!!! rumble rumble rumble.

DAMN! thunderboomer rolling in.  (In Texas, I could see them coming for miles.  Here, with all the hills, They sneak in.)

I’ll paddle in rain.  I’ll paddle in snow, and freezing conditions.  I’ll paddle through downpours.  I’ve done all of that more than once.

I will NOT paddle when Zeus is tossing electric spears around. (even if my boat is good insulator (i has doubts) my paddle is a carbon fiber model.  Those DO conduct electricity, and do so VERY WELL.)

Quick paddle back to put in and pulled B-J onto shore; time to see if this was gonna blow over or if we were in for serious fun.

Another paddler chose that point to put in at same time, and of course, talk ensued.

He’s paddling a Duckie: An inflatable.  Good for flat water and up to class 3 white water, but I wouldn’t take one out in wild water unless I had thigh straps on it.(nor white water for the same reason, but they are capable.). Total N00B!!!.   I suggested he move his seat-back forward so his chest was at the mid-point.  He had been all the way rear and was doing the drunken sailor paddle getting back to shore.   We talked a bit more and he was asking things about the lake and where to camp and, and, and,,,,

Thunderboomers blew over, barely drizzled where we were (heard that nearby, at the local town, traffic was brought to a standstill by the rain at one point.   We never saw it.). What the hell, Its Saturday, and the only pressing thing I must do is feed MamaKat her dedkow, and trust me, she doesn’t need it.  Ol’ girl is getting a little pudgy.

Took him around the lake, showed him a couple of boat-in only campsites (you could hike it, but it would definitely suck) and some of the features.   Told him some kayaking tales, of mine, and of others.  Discussed whitewater and how his boat is capable of it, but needs a couple small changes to make it work (thigh straps!!!). and we discussed the merits of proper PFD’s vs the crap-tastic wallyworld specials on sale cheap (to fill the Coast Guard regulation of a vest per person on motored crafts).    Never even broke a sweat.  Slowed down to Duck speed and while he was stroking out, I was barely dipping paddles.   At one point, we were rafted up chatting and the wind pushed that duck and Blue Jean an easy 200 yards, sideways.   That wouldn’t have happened if it were just me and B-j: she may have moved sideways some, but not that much.

When we got back to shore, He asked where to look for a ‘solid boat’.   I think he liked the idea of paddling one vs Rowing a Duck (and they would be better if they were rowed,IMO.),   And he tossed me a small bottle of Fireball in thankz.  (what is it with the Fireball Whiskey?   Never heard of this stuff until a few years ago and now its EVERYWHERE!!!!)

Was a good day.  Got to play tour guide.  Got to feel the love of some of my readers and got a new lease on the writing thing.  (I’m easy to please, just toss out an F-bomb in comments every once in awhile ;-).   ). And I was able to go paddling TWICE!!!    Didn’t fill one single thing I meant to do today, but F!IT!  its sleep-in Saturday, right?   I have tomorrow to get the domestic crap caught up, and MamaKat wants food ANYTIME I decide its time to sit my ass down,,,,

  1. Yea, I live at 9500′ in the mountains and when the lightning starts you get your ass below tree line quick. It is the only weather I fear when in the mountains. The only state with more lightning than Colorado is Florida.

So glad you are getting some R&R and good conversation. We all need it. I was thrilled to see all the comments on previous blog. You do a great job in bringing perspective to life. We are all in the same boat and just knowing we are not alone in similar thinking reassures that life is hitting us all like that bolt of lightning. Keep up what you do. I look forward to waking with my coffee and catching up on your writing.
