Death n ethics
Strange post here, follow along. And no, it ain’t fiction
Yesterday was an odd mix of weather, portents, and peace. A short workday that circumvented into a lazy peaceful afternoon with a fuzzy Purr-i-cane in my lap.
But portents, and mental dialogue on ethics, libertarianism, and how useless laws of man truly are,,,
Where I put in my kayaks on the local river is also ‘just’ off the beaten path. Not far enough back to be a serious impediment but far enough that shady shit can be done with little fear of prying eyes. It’s also where lazy fucks like to dump their trash.
That ‘trash’ I ran across yesterday was evidence of things that most modern civilized peeps don’t believe still exist or happen: Cock fighting and Dog Fighting. Three grain bags full of the losers from the cock fights, and the remains of the bait dog (and it could have been the losing dog, hard to tell when all that’s left is the bones and connecting tissues) , all unceremoniously dumped in a heap to rot and moulder away.
“There aughta be a law,,,” some will say. Sorry; that doesn’t fly, because there ARE laws against that shit. Laws against fighting animals, animal cruelty, proper disposal of dead animals, improper disposal of all sorts of trash, etc etc etc. And not one of those laws means shit to the types that do these things.
And that brings up the libertarian side of things: ‘Do no harm, do as you wish’ sortasumpin. The dichotomy of thoughts for me here is that I don’t stomach very well what the ‘cock fighters’ do. I find it sick and depraved, and I can usually spot said people here locally, by attitude or bearing. I steer clear of them, not just because their ‘vibe’ is not compatible with mine, but because they tend to be the cooks/distributors of meth and other illicit activities that I find destructive. What I don’t know, I can’t spill, and if I don’t cohabitate, I don’t get dragged down when they eventually run afoul of said law/competition/rivals. People of that ilk eventually screw up, and the wrack and ruin they bring with them, spatters like the filth it represents. Like the rot and death, they left at my put-in.
But I think “regulating it away” is a fool’s errand and creates more issues over the long haul. You can not regulate morals or ethics into existence. And the preponderance of churches in this area shows that religion is not enough to instill them either. (And I know of one preacher that is also a cock fighter; begging the question of,,,,)
I see recognition of life and intelligence as limited in some people. Some people just do not see animals as anything other than tools or property to be used as they see fit. And if that tool is to be destroyed while making them money, so what. I see it in the attitude of ‘So long as I get mine,,,”: an attitude that is not just a local thing, but species-wide. Not everyone has it, but enough do that you can find it in every country and at all levels of society in one form or another. I would even go so far as saying that Demonrats Poly-tick-ians have a ‘refined’ version of it.
Ethics: what a sticky concept, malleable to a point nearly fluid. No hard sciences here. And what is ethical in one country may be the lowest of taboos in another. My ethics are not those of the locals or I should say, some of the locals. I knew when I moved here, that I would be the outlier and that I have ZERO say in how others live, and that’s just the way I want it to be. I won’t be like DICK.

But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. And seeing that mess left out in the open air,,, that had as much to do with my heading home as the rain did, maybe more. And the scene kept coming back into my mind’s eye as the night wore on, and my brain would not settle for “that’s just the way this area is”. Maybe it is. Maybe it’s just human nature. Maybe it’s upbringing. Maybe it’s cultural, (though I find nothing ‘cultural’ about ‘killing for sport’: another post altogether.) But it is NOT me,,,
Maybe its time to move on again,,,,

That floating/malleable shifting foundation of ethics is everywhere, but there seem to be so many far outside the bell shaped curve these days, many..and far outside. I believe this to be in large part to folks adept at the long game. The game being the systematic destruction of traditional values.
I have generally subscribed to “you do you” as long as you are not hurting others, especially me and mine. I think the fundamental problem with that is we expect there are lines that generally won’t be crossed, and if they are, there will be consequences. The lines are being obliterated and consequences are few within the legal system, and now, few within society. This is not happenstance.
There was a time in polite society when correction could and would be made. Steal a man’s horse, you hang. Enter a man’s property with ill intent, expect to be ventilated, and the property owner would be justified. Beat a woman, fully expect to get your ass stomped.
We are now in bizzaro world, everything turned topsy turvy and viewed through the funhouse mirror of progressives/communists/perverts etc.
There are some days when the only solutions appear to involve forehead therapy for some. Neanderthal to even think it? Perhaps. But when you let a fire burn too long it takes more and more drastic measures to bring it under control.
Hate seeing it like this some days. The strategy of just wanting to be left alone (and that of you do you) is an abject failure against the current cabal of enemies, those at the top of the heap driving this mess.
Those carcasses you describe are quite the metaphor for so much right this moment.

Libertarian. I despise that word and refuse to use it to describe any connection to it.
it is a coward’s way, a road to tolerance/diversity, lawlessness and perversity.
The reason we are in the mess we’re in, is that society as a whole has rejected God, rejected morals, decency and science. Today the Libertarian is a dope smoking lay-about who wants to be let alone as long as he is doing his own thing (humanism). Like the pot head up west who was running for counsel. Do drugs until you get fired, use up your EI then apply for welfare, then degrade to stealing for your habit while alienating your family and friends. (Unless they are dope heads as well.)
But these sniveling cowards are first to cry when they are caught breaking into your truck to steal shit to sell for drugs. Our Libtard Gov gives out ASIH to anyone and everyone who “may need it”. All of a sudden, these Libertarians are socialist creatures and are gleefully gulping the handout. Don’t get me wrong, help those who need it, but those who can work and don’t are not handicapped. I have no sympathy or time for these types of losers.

I don’t hold to the Libertarian party lines but I do hold to libertarian (small l) principles of ‘ if it harms NONE (to include your own person) do as you will. ” and DO NOT abide by any socialist/communist tact. I despise giverment assistance (and you will not that I have applauded private assists like community chest endeavors, where the public volunteers assistance, not have it stolen from them)
I despise the way grouos will ‘adopt’ a principle or a word to describe themselves then pervert it (such as liberals, who aren’t Liberal or educated, which is where the term originated, as in ‘liberally educated’,,,) . If I use an older term, it will be using a definition from before WW2 in most cases.
I do understand your resentment of the term in modern parlance, but that was not my usage. Sorry for the confusion.
