Meh!! deflated
Posted my blue funk today, and commenced to waffling around the house, piddlin’ with a kayak, (that is turning into something QUITE interesting, but I’ll go into that more in depth, likely in a different post.) and purt much procrastinating the inevitable.
Da arrives on scene, looking for his brother (whom lives further along this dead end road into the middle of nowhere). Well, Brudder is off and about doing whatever it is he does during the week (he is retired, just disappears a lot.) and I broached the subject of Buffalo needing attention and my work situation. He didn’t even try to give me any grief, just made some suggestions to “where” I should take the beastie. Then looked at me and said “So what are you waiting for,,,”
Nuff said, dampered the stove back, grabbed phone and headed out.
And an adventure it almost became. No issues leaving the hollar, no slipping noted though it shifted funny a time or two. THEN,, Hit the highway. HOO-BOy is Dio in for fun. Second gear started slipping right around 2500, I let off the throttle until I felt it slip into third and then eased back on it. No other issues felt
YET.
Then I hit a large hill between point A and my destination. Usual kick-down into fourth from Overdrive to get up hill (she’s a doozy) and heard/felt something ‘give’. Overdrive is GONE, not there, no Torque Converter lock-up Just Fourth gear and high RPMs. Getting closer to the shop I chose (dads suggestion, good reputation) and there is one traffic light between us.
AND of course I hit the red. First gear no problem, gets me going. “Second, whats that? Ne’er heard of it” My transmission replies. So I downshift manually into first, rev it up to 4 grand then dump it into 3rd and I am moving with traffic again. Shop over next ridge.
Pull in and breath deep. Hadn’t realized I was holding my breath.
Get into the office and talking to the owner. Describe what has been going on. His response “You got lucky, about another five miles and you’d’ve been walking.”
I don’t doubt it.
So, Buffalo is on the racks for a week, Da is letting me use his truck for the interim, “I’ll call ya if I need to go somewhere or need the truck” so that is one worry mostly out of the way. Da hasn’t tried his usual guilt routine whenever us kids borrow from him, but I can see it coming once the actual bill is in our faces. I’m boning up for that.
Now, if I could find some way of weaseling some extra hours in over the time between now and when I get Buffalo back in my possession,,,,,

I’m glad you made it without a walk or a tow. Dad has been through an ordeal this year and I don’t think the money is the highest priority on his worries these days. I’m happy it was an easier request for you then originally suspected. I know exactly what you mean tho.
