Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said it, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

Silver bullets

Thats my take on current ‘practice of medi-sin’.

And I can lay blame straight in the lap of Big Pharma and Advertiser’s. Every other interuption on the toobs is for another silver bullet to fix, whatevers,,,,

Here’s why I am saying this. Doc (NP actually) rcvd Da’s blood work. Cholesterol was in range, but a touch high in HDLs, Soooossssss, she called the pharmacy and changed a scrip then called me to go pick it up with orders to drop the one for the new. No other options. Shooting a silver bullet at some unseen monster

Now, I know a little sumpin sumpin about HDLs/LDLs from having a cholesterol issue a few years back, and my Doc THEN, despised Big Pharma and worked with me on my DIET, and within 2 months, I was back in range with a slightly higher LDL count (the good cholesterol)

Yeah, the Da is eating more fish, BUT, he fries EVERYTHING and uses peanut oil,,,, simple fix, start grilling or baking instead.

Only, not so easy. He doesn’t like the taste,,, 🙄🙄🙄

So, do you FORCE an 81 yo to comply, or let them spend their remaining years in happiness even if its ‘killing them ‘?

Yeah, no simple answers, and its ultimately NOT my choice,,, and Maybe the NP has a better understanding of me Da,,, still, more pills at a guy that despises pills? Umkay,,,

More later, shower, some ketch-up and chill out first,,,

You don’t need to eliminate the peanut oil or the frying, just reduce them. My hunch is he’ll discover he really likes grilling things if you can demonstrate the same results as a pill.

  2. My cholesterol was high during one visit; I’d been doing KETO, so I backed off the fats a bit. Came in fine the next visit.
Rule of thumb for successful aging – keep the meds to an absolute minimum. Cheaper, and less likely to bring up side effects.

    • We are trying to get him off what we can as we can. He skipped a beta-blocker last week and that same day had a minor episode reminiscent of prior to his stent emplacement. SO, there is some point to his use of what he is on, and, while the number he is on horrifies us, the lack of meds (in his doctors’ opinion) is astounding for someone eighty-one years of age.
