Where’d the time go?!!?

Sorry, I fell into a youtube wormhole and just found my way back to this reality.
Woof! That was a strange trip, but oh so interesting and informative reinforcing of my theory ‘ain’t nuthin new’.
If you are interested in such things, home machining, ancient tool making, foundry work, blacksmithing, etc etc etc, find “Clickspring” on youtube and be prepared to get sucked in.  There are others that will be linked as well and follow those too. (His project of recreating the antikythera device, which is another rabbit hole all by itself, is what sucked me in.  That device is testament to my theory.  Nuthin’ new, just misplaced in history.)
When you come up for air, you can curse my name all you want, but you’ll have a shit-ton more info bouncing around in your brainpan, and may be inspired to do something with it.  I know some of what I picked up kindled the fires on some old projects I have had on hold, mostly due to lack; lack of money, resources, or proper materials.  Those ‘lacks’ now have options I didn’t have.  The biggest being able to case harden mild steel into high carbon steels.  I barely had a laymans idea of how to do this, but Chris’s vids are detailed and now all I lack is practical application of that knowledge.  (And that lack will be addressed this weekend!) Certain tools can be made, properly, and that is a HUGE advantage.  (See his vid on making custom files, wow!) 
The biggest project on hold, the shop, has just been given new life, because those other projects need something a little more formal than my porch workshop.  IE: certain tools need a proper home,  Southend,  Ol Chinee 3n1, forge/foundry, etc, etc.
I may not turn out the immaculately finished pieces that Chris  (clickspring) turns out, but ,,, (and even if you have no/little interest in machining fun, check out his work anyway,  his makes are flat gorgeous!)
Without those tools in functional form, I can’t turn out much of anything, and not without some major shuffling of things.
I likely won’t document the shop build: a rather plain Jane type of building, and I am really gonna have to stretch it out as income is still on the “meh!” side.  Foundation for one third of it (I planned it in modules, so that as things get more involved, I can ‘upgrade’.) is in place, just need gravel, rebar, and about 6 yards of concrete to finish the slab.  Frame, roof, then walls, and start setting up.  First project in the dry will be to rebuild/restore the Onan 5K genny, and that will be moved into the “Tijuana ‘ho- house” shed that currently is the catch-all storage unit.  I plan on keeping the genny and future compressor in there, as then I can isolate the noisier parts away from my already damaged tin ears.  (HA!  Hammers on anvils ain’t silent, Dio!) ( yah yah, I know,  but compressors and gennies are distraction noises.  I prefer them ‘elsewhere’.) And I already have a 50 gallon fuel tank for the Onan already set up, able to be dismounted to take for refill,  and a worm gear winch to lift it back in place afterwards.  I ran that Onan while on the road, and it isn’t the most frugal gennie, but part of that is likely in part to being jury rigged in several ways.  The auto choke, wasnt. The aircooler shroud was Frankensteined. Some of the wiring was, to put it mildly, hilljacked. (Duct tape for electrical connections?!?!?!, r ya kidding me?!?!?!, sheesh! More surprised the thing hadn’t arc welded itself to the frame!) And when I first fired it up, the previous owner, who obviously didn’t know or understand certain things about AC current,  had cranked the engine speed up (smoother running I guess) and the beast was cranking out 160VAC at around 130Hz.  
I am glad I checked it first, or I’d have been replacing some gear.   I don’t  think he ever really used it all that much for anything other than lights (and a 15watt bulb would have shined like a sun under those conditions) but,,,

Anywhoos,  I’m back on earth, in the 21st century,  and on my hill again.  Still haven’t been able to get the kayak out on water (and boredom is to blame for me surfing utube,🙄)  I’ll post as things progress,  shop building, kayak adventures,  and excerpts of dog/cat silliness.  (Voo is starting to get daring about catsfood, and has a few gashes across his schnoz to prove Buzz does NOT approve. LOL)
