3D Shoot
I guess I did,,,
MEH! why lie. IMO, I botched it. I had two dead misses; one because I am hard of hearing and heard “28 yards” when I shoulda realized I was looking at a whole lot closer to 40. And the other was ‘target panic’ and I flinched at the same time I released.
Amazingly enough, no lost arrows. The flinch hit a poplar just off the lane and I was able to cut it loose. The missed pin lane had a nice big Sumac right behind the target and my arrow skipped right into it.
Right off the bat, one of the other shooters had a cam come apart on his bow. It sounded like a starter pistol going off. He was out on his first try and lost the arrow to boot. At least I didn’t have that bad of a day.
Right off, I did feel a little out classed. The local college archery team was there (as expected. It was their sponsored event) and I was just looking at all the high dollar toys they had. One of the guys in my group was one of the students and I was asking him about his rig. The boy had well over 4 grand tied up in it: from the bow( 1200ish ) to the sights, stabilizers, release, etc, as well as his high dollar binos/range finder,,,
So, with his rig in mind, I feel a tad better. I went with four arrows, a bow I spent less than $200 on (and its 17 years old!) No binos, no range finder, or specialized stabilizers, and his score was higher than mine, but only just. Just goes to show, it isn’t always about the gear. (I also got the impression, he had never ever had to consider shooting for his supper, and can verify he has NEVER missed a meal. But I digress.)
Anywhoos, it was fun, I met some danged nice people, a rarity for this grumpy ol’ hermit, and while I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, I wasn’t embarrassed either.
And now that I know Spud is beginning to mutter at me, I’ll give my score. 153/3. Those two misses messed me up more than a little, but the kid I was shooting in group with was only 40 points higher and had a whole lot more invested.

How many targets and was it two rounds ?

Well then with only one arrow per , 200 would be considered par. So with two misses, that was not a bad score for a first effort !
Our local 3d usually has twenty animals and we shoot two rounds. Best I ever did was 425.
Usually shoot 390-400.
Our rules are no range finders allowed though…
So are you going to do it again ?
I kinda had to back off after my accident, and now the past couple months have been shooting again.
It’s a good addiction I think.

Tried to send this last night, network issues.
Thinking maybe a couple more. Want some more time with the bow and maybe a better release. The one I have is ok, but I still hang on it every once in awhile. As is, I have only had this particular bow all of two weeks to get familiar with it. I came home and shot the bear a little and was nailing it. But that bear is danged heavy. I thought it would be interesting to take my recurve to one as well. I shoot near the same out to thirty and the kids would be just flat shocked. LOL. Gonna have to get my finger working right before that can happen.
I was a bit shocked that they allowed the range finders myself. I was guessing them within a couple of yards, but started leaning on their tools ‘just cuz’ : that hurt me as I said. Guessing is half the fun while hunting and you rarely have time to grab a fix from a tool unless in a tree.
